Deontay Wilder – Boxer: The towering 6’6″ 1/2″ “Bronze Bomber” has been on a Mike Tyson-esque knockout spree with no opponent able to last past the 4th round. Equipped with great leverage, the explosive Wilder, 29, unloads rockets at the sound of the bell. Wilder has excellent coordination for a man of his height and displays above-average hand-speed. Offensively, the right-hander has every punch in the book and can end fights with one shot. Wilder’s intimidating offense has been his best defense but the skyscraper can be hit. On the downside, Wilder can be outboxed and is still a work in progress. Wilder’s stamina is a major question mark having never been past 4 rounds. With a limited body of work Wilder’s chin has yet to be tested by a true bomber. Wilder got a late start in boxing and at times appears to lack confidence in his abilities.
Bermane Stiverne – Boxer: The bulky 6’2″ “B-Ware” is a huge puncher that throws punches with bad intentions. Stiverne, 36, flicks a nice his jab off his hip to set up combinations to the head and body. For a 240 lb. heavyweight Bermane has very-good hand speed and punches well to the body with both hands. Stiverne has some nastiness and is strong finisher when he has his man hurt. One the downside, Stiverne is overly patient at times and has below-average footspeed. The tough Hatian Stiverne has a good chin but has been on the deck before and has a small hole in his defense for straight-right hands. Deontay Wilder vs Bermane Stiverne Odds give Wilder a 53% chance of winning
ESPN2 News Expert Boxing Predictions Bottom Line: Wilder is a great puncher but he is still very green and a little stiff. Stiverne is a clever counterpuncher that is durable and a touch faster than the elongated “Bronze Bomber” Wilder. Stiverne has faced the better opposition and has a little more boxing scince. Bet Stiverne to beat the still developing Wilder by brutal knockout somewhere between the 5th and 7th rounds.
