Miguel Cotto vs Sergio Martinez Betting Odds have Cotto as a 5-2 underdog

New York, NY – W.B.C. Middleweight champion Sergio Martinez makes his comeback June 7th from Madison Square Garden when he takes on contender Miguel Cotto. Miguel Cotto vs Sergio Martinez Betting Odds have Martinez at a 5-2 favorite with 60% of boxing picks on the Sergio in the HBO Boxing main event. Martinez, 51-2-2, 28 KO’s, has been on the shelf for 13 months but is still on many boxing pundits pound-4-pound list at 39 years old. Cotto, 38-4, 31 KO’s, annihilated fringe contender Delvin Rodriguez in October and goes for a belt in a 4th weight class. Our ESPN2 Boxing experts broke down the sides to this W.B.C. title bout that will be fought at a catch-weight of 159 Lbs. Miguel Cotto vs Sergio Martinez Betting Odds have Cotto as a +215 underdog (Wager $1000 to win $2150) at SPORTS BETTING ONLINE

Sergio Martinez: The 5’9”1/2” Argentine is well-built with a powerful distribution of lean muscle leveraged with a Gumby-like 73” reach. The long-armed slickster makes excellent use of distance with good power in both hands and a flicking jab that he shoots from the hip. Blessed with great hand and foot speed, Martinez usually can beat his man to the punch and frustrate foes with his hands at his waist. Martinez’s chin has proven to be very-solid but he leaves himself “naked” too often with his hands down. It is is still unclear how Martinez will respond after a long layoff and multitude of injuries at age 40. Martinez’s best wins are Kelly Pavlik UD12, Paul Williams KO2 and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. UD12. Miguel Cotto vs Sergio Martinez Betting Odds Total is at 11.5 rounds with the Over at -300

Miguel Cotto: The shaven-skulled Puerto Rican icon is a sturdy 5’7” with a short 67” reach. Cotto does his best work inside with lethal combinations and debilitating body punches. Cotto can also box effectively outside with springy legs and a punishing jab that he fires from a peek-a-boo stance. Cotto is a durable fighter with a tight defense but he is a little stiff and mechanical. Cotto can be outboxed by slicker fighters that have good length and speed. The 33-year old Cotto looked rejuvenated with his win over Rodriguez and legendary Freddie Roach appears to have his charge in good form. Cotto’s best wins at 154 + Lbs. are over Antonio Margarito KO9, Ricardo Mayorga KO12 and Yuri Foreman KO9. Cotto also gave pound-4-pound champ Floyd Mayweather Jr. arguably the toughest fight of his career in a decision loss.

Boxing Picks Prediction: Cotto will fill into his middleweight frame nicely and his in-fighting and power will be superior to the bigger Martinez.  Coming off a long layoff and injury, Sergio Martinez will come up short against a rejuvenated Cotto that is working well with Wild Card Boxing. Cotto is as fundamentally sound as any fighter in the game and Martinez’s technical flaws will catch up to the 39-year old. Martinez will outwork Cotto in spots but will not land anything too damaging. Cotto should drop Martinez with his hands low at some point and Cotto’s jab will give the Argentine fits. Expect Cotto to notch a close, but clear cut decision win in his backyard of MSG in the 115-112 to 114-113 range.
