Gamboa, 23-0, 16 KO’s, will be coming off a long layoff with his last bout an unexpectedly tough UD12 win over fringe contender Darleys Perez. Crawford, 23-0, 16 KO’s, is coming off a UD12 win over U.K. contender Ricky Burns. Our Expert Boxing Picks staff broke down the HBO Boxing 12-round main event. Yuriorkis Gamboa vs Terence Crawford Boxing Betting Odds have Gamboa a +175 underdog (Bet $1000 to win $1750) at SPORTS BETTING ONLINE
Yuriorkis Gamboa – Boxer: The stocky 5’4” bomber Gamboa is an electric quick boxer/puncher that carries his hands at his waist. Gamboa, 32, fights like a more aggressive Roy Jones Jr./Muhummad Ali mix, dancing on his toes before attacking in spurts with machine gun like combinations. The athletically gifted Cuban has excellent power, head movement and footwork.Gamboa has shown that he can carry his power into the later rounds. On the downside, Gamboa has amateurish tendencies and lacks solid fundamental boxing skill. “El Ciclon” has shown a good but not great chin and has visited the canvas on several occasions when caught out of position. Gamboa is short and short-armed (65” reach) and has bounced from trainer to trainer, lacking focus outside the ropes. Gamboa’s best wins are over Daniel Ponce De Leon KO8, Jorge Solis KO4 and Orlando Salido UD12. Yuriorkis Gamboa vs Terence Crawford Boxing Betting Odds Total is OFF
Terence Crawford – Boxer: The lanky 5’8” southpaw is a slick and quick boxer that can switch-hit righty or lefty. Crawford, 26, can box equally effective from both stances but carries a little more sting as a southpaw. Crawford uses distance well and has a very fast, active jab (70” reach) that he doubles and triples up. Crawford can counter-punch and is oily defensively with good head movement, instincts, footwork and hand-placement. Crawford is an average puncher but he sets up his punches well and has good accuracy. On the downside, Crawford is a finesse fighter that relies on timing, guile and speed with his lack of punching power. Because of his ordinary strength, Crawford is a little bit of a “runner” that fights in reverse, rarely committing to his punches. Crawford’s best wins are over contenders Ricky Burns UD12, Andrey Klimov UD10 and Breidis Prescott UD10.
Expert Boxing Picks Prediction: Crawford is a careful fighter by nature and after he feels Gamboa’s blasts he will put on his track shoes. Crawford’s chin has never been truly tested and he has never felt power anywhere near “The Cyclone’s”.Crawford’s jab and height will give the shorter fighter issues but eventually the Cuban will hammer Crawford along the ropes. Gamboa is a little more experienced and his ring science is educated with a large bag of tricks. Gamboa is a truly “special” fighter with the type of physical talents Greek gods were blessed with. Despite having no real trainer and problems with the law outside the ring, Yuriorkis will find enough focus to put his career back on track. Expect Gamboa to score a pair of knockdowns on his way to a 115-111, 114-112 decision win.
