2016 Preakness Stakes Predictions, Picks, Odds: Generally speaking the horse with the most speed wins the Preakness Stakes. Nyquist is the horse to beat as the 3 to 5 betting favorite in the 141st running of the Preakness and all signs point to this horse having the most steam. On paper the heavy Preakness Stakes Odds on Nyquist are indicative of his superiority over the entire 11-horse field. The #1 contender Exaggerator fell 1 1/4 lengths short behind Nyquist in the Kentucky Derby and is regarded as the only serious threat to upset the unbeaten Derby winner. Exaggerator has lost four straight head-to-head races against Nyquist and the sloppy track that is expected at Pimlico racetrack is favorable to Nyquist. The 2016 Preakness Stakes start time is 6:40 PM ET and will be aired on NBC Below is a complete analysis of the 2016 Preakness Stakes Contenders. $155 Bet on Nyquist pays out $255) at BOVADA.LV
Post Position 1 – Cherry Wine +2000
Cherry Wine Horse Analysis: This horse only has a shot if it’s jockey Calvin Borel Jr. can find the rail on the sloppy track. Were betting that the Preakness rookie won’t have enough horse to pull off the type of miracle ride that is old man was known for.
Post Position 2 – Uncle Lino +2000
Uncle Lino Horse Analysis: This front runner is outclassed and will not be able to pull off the wire-to-wire win that he is known for. His upside is that he runs well in the slop and is a winner with six of seven in the money finishes.

Post Position 3 – Nyquist -155
Nyquist Horse Analysis: This should be an easy win for the undefeated monster. The rest of the contenders are outclassed on paper. Anything can happen in a horse race but a series of disasters would have to occur for this horse to lose.
Post Position 4 – Awesome Speed +5000
Awesome Speed Horse Analysis: Has decent early speed but is inexperienced and in way over his head. Jockey Alan Goldberg is a Preakness rookie. Dead money.
Post Position 5 – Exaggerator +260
Exaggerator Horse Analysis: This horse has kept things close in his four races with Nyquist but has always come up short. Exaggerator won the Santa Anita Derby in the slop which gives him a good a shot of placing in the money but 0 for 4 against his rival is a big enough sample size to fade this pony. Jockey Keith Desormeaux is Preakness rookie.
Post Position 6 – Lani +4000
Lani Horse Analysis: The Japanese import is a wildcard that is one of only three horses that raced in the Derby. Did little to prove that he belongs with the upper echelon in the Derby with a 9th place finish. Has some nice closing speed which gives him upside but too many unknowns to burn a ticket. Fade.
Post Position 7 – Collected +1600
Collected Horse Analysis: The notes on Collected are more about his legendary trainer Bob Baffert than the horse itself. Baffert loves the Preakness and has won 6 Preakness Stakes at a staggering 26% winning percentage! Collected’s jockey Javier Castellano is a world class rider which makes this pony intriguing if nothing else. Human connections aside this horse might not have enough velocity or experience. This will his first Grade 1 event. Baffert claims that he didn’t race this horse in the Derby an that his sole purpose was to run in the Preakness. Those words are enough to take a flier on this longshot. BET 1 UNIT to win, place, show. $100 Bet on Collected To Win Pays $1600)
Post Position 8 – Laoban
Laoban Horse Analysis: Is a maiden that has no business in this race. Lost his last five starts. Rookie Preakness trainer + jockey combo. Dead money.
Post Position 9 – Abiding Star +5000
Abiding Star Horse Analysis: Taking a major step up in class and sports a rookie trainer + jockey combo. On the upside he has won his last five straight and has nice lineage with Uncle Mo as his sire. Not enough class. Toss.
Post Position 10 – Fellowship +5000
Fellowship Horse Analysis: Is closer who’s running style isn’t conducive to the Preakness. Has only won 2 of 12 races but did finish 3rd in the Florida Derby to Nyquist in the slop which is very encouraging. Jockey Jose Lezcano is a young talented rider. Probably the best longshot of the bunch.
Post Position 11 – Stradivari +750
Stradivari Horse Analysis: An 11-length win at the Gulfstream on a wet track is an eye catching win that makes him dangerous. Legendary trainer Todd Pletcher is 0 for 7 in the Preakness Stakes but this beauty has massive upside. Has never run a graded stakes race but his ability is intriguing. BET 1 UNIT to Win, Place, Show
