This past weekend The Heavyweight Factory put on yet another quality show with local prospects staying unbeaten at Rumble at the Rock V. The main event from the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida was a one-sided affair that saw welterweight prospect Livan Navarro 11-0, 7 KO’s, outwork grizzled journeyman Breidis Prescott, 31-17, 22 KO’s. The scheduled 10-rounder was bizarrely changed to an 8-rounder mid-bout but hardly mattered with Navarro winning every round easily. Prescott tried to apply pressure but the quick combinations of Navarro hand-cuffed the hard punching 35-year old former contender. Navarro is a good prospect with an aggressive offensive mindset but he tends to leave his chin a little high in the air for a fighter of his caliber. Final scores read: 78-74, 79-73 and 80-72 all for Prescott.

Stocky Cuban Jr. lightweight talent Hairon Socarras, 22-0-3, 14 KO’s, notched a 5th round stoppage over Colombia’s Jesus Martinez (25-7, 12 KO’s. Socarras, 26, imposed his will on the faded Martinez and ripped hooks and uppercuts to the torso throughout. The 36-year old Martinez was unable to avoid the avalanche of punches being thrown by Soccaras and was finally dropped in the 5th by a short left hook. Martinez decided not to come out for the 6th round and was losing every round on ESPN2 News’s scorecard. Socarras is ranked 7th by the W.B.A. and has the ability to compete with the elite of the 130 Lb. division.

Unbeaten Puerto Rican welterweight Derrieck Cuevas, 21-0-1, 14 KO’s, won a foul filled affair over Albert Mensah, 27-8-1, 15 KO’s. Cuevas mauled Mensah along the ropes as the Ghana fighter meekly covered up and tried to hold on to Cuevas whenever he had a chance. Mensah seemed content to try and survive and pickup a paycheck with incurring to much damage. Hard to evaluate the 24-year old Cuevas due to Mensah’s non-effort but he still appears to need more seasoning before swimming with the deep pool of welterweight sharks. Final scores read: 80-72, 80-72 and 78-74 all for Cuevas.
