Philadelphia, PA—Streaking junior lightweight contender Tevin Farmer, of North Philadelphia, and Orlando Rizo, of Managua, Nicaragua, will meet in a scheduled eight-round contest Friday evening, Oct. 14, at the 2300 Arena in South Philadelphia.  First of eight fights is at 7 p.m.
The Farmer-Rizo bout is a major added attraction to the card which already features junior middleweight Tyrone Brunson, of North Philadelphia, against Ismael “Tito” Garcia, of Vineland, NJ, in an eight-round match.
Farmer (right), 26, is riding a 15-fight win streak and he is the North American Boxing Federation (NABF) champ at 130 pounds. He is coming off the best performance of his career, a 10-round whitewashing of highly touted lightweight Ivan Redkach, of Los Angeles, CA, on July 30 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY.
A pro since 2011, Farmer is 22-5-1, 5 K0s.  He won the vacant NABF title earlier this year with a 10-round decision over Mexico’s Gamaliel Diaz at the B. B. King Blues Club & Grill in New York City.
Farmer is ranked No. 6 in the world by the World Boxing Council (WBC), No. 14 by the International Boxing Federation (IBF).
“It feels great to be back here in Philly,” Farmer said. “I haven’t fought here in almost three years.  I get a chance to let my city see my growth as a boxer.  It really means a lot to me because I have been itching to fight here.  I have friends and family who have never seen me fight in person.  Now they have that chance.
“October 14 is another day toward my goal of becoming a world champion.  I am not taking Rizo lightly; I must be at my best.  It’s time to continue my winning streak.  Philly stand up!”
Rizo, 31, a southpaw like Farmer, is 19-7, 11 K0s.  Now living in Puerto Rico, Rizo is the former Nicaraguan super bantamweight champ. He has been stopped only once in 26 pro fights.
A slew of local favorites make up the undercard, highlighted by the fourth meeting between lightweights Victor Vasquez; of Philadelphia, and Osnel Charles, of Atlantic City, NJ.  Charles leads the series, 2-1, but Vasquez won the last time by knockout.
Another six-round all-Philly lightweight contest pits Anthony Burgin against Gerald Smith.
Local junior middleweight Isaiah Wise faces James Robinson, of York, PA, over four rounds.
Also on the card:  Lightweight Steven Ortiz plus the return of welterweight Hasan Young and middleweight Fred Jenkins, Jr.
